The Soft Invasion Pt. 1 + 2

City of Richmond | 2025

As part of an illustrated series inspired by local wildlife, The Soft Invasion Pt. 1 + 2 contemplates the unexpected delight felt from spotting a rabbit in the urban landscape. Even if I’m on a focused stroll, I cannot resist a pause in my step if I notice a rabbit in view. There’s a bit of magic in these fleeting encounters and serves as a reminder that even in our busiest moments, nature can quietly exist in a parallel space. While a rabbit sighting can be seen as a good omen, the rabbits in the City of Richmond carry a more complex narrative, as they are considered an invasive species and disrupt local ecosystems.

In this piece, the rabbits are nestled among the layers of foliage, representing both concealment and revelation, as well as the tensions surrounding their presence. These images invite the viewer to reflect on how moments of wonder can coexist with the realities and challenges of ecological displacement.
